NUS COLLEGE

I served as part of the inaugural faculty of Singapore's first honour's college.  The college offers experimental courses that prioritize student-led and experiential learning.

LAW IN THE MAKING

NHS2059
Second year, honors course

This course explores how law is made and the fine line between what is gained and what is lost when a law is passed. Three domains will be examined: the legislature, the courts, and the police.  Students have the opportunity to examine specific legal cases and interact with the institutions that handle these cases. Traditional lectures will be replaced with in-class discussions, field trips, and guest lectures with law and policy makers.  Instead of a final exam or paper, student's draft a bill in groups and debate it at the end of the semester.

LAW & COMMUNITY FORMATION

NEP3000/4000
Honors capstone, compulsory

I am supervising three groups of students working on the topics of gig economy worker protections, sex education, and employment disputes in the food and beverage industry.  All three groups are required to work with community partners in crafting a strategy to improve the existing conditions for the community of people they proposed to work with.  In addition to coming up with a tangible product that can help the community, students will also present their project through a creative expression at the end of their time with NUS College.

HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP BUILDING

NHS3901
Independent study

Utilizing Snell's Multidimensional Sexual Self-Concept Questionnaire (MSSCQ), students conducted a study to illuminate the diverse perspectives of students on sexual activity, attitudes, and knowledge. This could indicate the necessity for more nuanced sex education approaches in tertiary institutions. A significant strength of the study is its pioneering focus on exploring the sexual self-concept of university students in Singapore.
