ABOUT ME

Hello!  My name is Dr. George B. Radics and I am a socio-legal scholar who researches and writes on crime, criminal justice, and human rights. My specific topics of interest include sexuality and race.  As a sociologist by training, my work often engages the fields of sociology of emotions and social theory.  And as a lawyer who has worked for the courts, I am fascinated with judicial procedures, legislative history, and especially how legal structures impact the lives of marginal communities.

I have published in the Columbia Human Rights Law ReviewJournal of Human RightsCurrent Sociology, and the Philippine Sociological Review.  I serve as an editor for Sociology Compass, Philippine Sociological Review, Women's Studies International Forum and the Asian Journal of Social Science.  I am also on the advisory board of the Bristol University Press Sociology of Diversity Series.

My first book, Emotional Filipinos: The American Myth of the “Lazy Native” and Islamic Separatism in the Philippines, is currently under contract.

I am a passionate, award-winning educator who is constantly innovating in the classroom.  As an inaugural faculty member of Singapore's first honors college, I helped to develop courses that emphasize experiential and student-led learning.  I am also the hybrid-learning ambassador for my department, and one of the first at my university to convert a course to be permanently hybrid.  I enjoy experimenting in the classroom, as evidenced by efforts to launch several interdisciplinary courses that engage new technology and alternative assessment methods--in fact, I co-lead a learning community on campus specifically meant to encourage this type of teaching.  Lastly, I frequently participate in talks off campus, bringing research and theory outside of the classroom.
